The northern suburbs were built out in distinct waves. Your home's era tells you how likely asbestos is — but only a lab test tells you for certain.
Post-war cottages, older character homes. Asbestos used broadly across wet areas, ceilings, eaves, roofing and fencing. Assume it's present.
Brick veneer and project homes. Internal sheeting, wet areas and eaves commonly asbestos cement. Especially relevant if you're renovating.
Far less common by this period, but old stock was still being used and won't be marked. Worth testing if you're doing major works.
Asbestos fully banned from December 2003. Unlikely to be present — though older outbuildings on the block may still need a look.
