Caboolture was largely built out through the 1960s, 70s and 80s — the peak decades for bonded asbestos sheeting in Australian homes. It wasn't banned in Queensland until 2003, and locally made sheeting kept being used well into the 1980s.
The problem is that it looks like an ordinary flat sheet. It's often painted over, textured, or hidden behind tiles. You genuinely cannot tell by looking — and products like Hardiflex and Villaboard are frequently mistaken for it, or assumed to be safe when they're not.
Testing is cheap. Guessing is expensive, illegal to remove yourself, and a real health risk to your family. A single lab test either gives you certainty to renovate freely, or proof you need a licensed removalist — before you've disturbed anything.
