This is the single biggest cause of nasty surprises in Morayfield. Because the house is brick veneer, homeowners assume it's too new or too solid for asbestos — and start pulling out a bathroom without testing.
But brick veneer is a facade. Behind and above it sits a timber frame lined with sheeting. In Morayfield homes from the 1980s and 90s, that sheeting is very often asbestos cement — particularly the bathroom, laundry, kitchen splashback, ceilings and the eave/soffit lining.
There's also the outdoor shed. Morayfield's estate blocks almost all came with a garden shed, and a large share of those were built from asbestos sheeting. Sheds get knocked down casually — and that's a genuine exposure risk.
The $249 question: one lab test is cheaper than a single week of a delayed renovation — and infinitely cheaper than dealing with contaminated demolition waste.
